
A great new Youtube feature was announced today called annotations. Annotations allow video owners to change their video by adding popouts of text during the video. This is very useful when you may have forgotten something very important and you don’t want to re-upload the video. In this case, all you would have to do is create an annotation and place it at the time you forgot to say what ever you forgot to say.

It allows you to set the amount of time to show the annotation, what kind of box you want, how big the annotation is and of course, what the annotation says.

I believe that youtube does this with flash, because it is very elegant and nicely displayed. The annotation comes up just like a thought balloon, which is really nice. This is something that should have been on Youtube from the start. One thing I would love to see is the option to set public annotations. This would be awesome, although people would take advantage of it, say nasty things and basically kill the video. Overall, great job Youtube, this is a feature people will love.
