Tiny-Code Taken Down For Violating NDA With Apple (false)

Apple, iPhone

Update: Tiny-Code lied. On the MacRumors Forum, Kelly from Tiny-Code, admitted it was all a joke. Kelly says:

“Tiny-Code never had any relations with Apple, Inc. or any other division of Apple. Never had the new firmware or any pre-SDK pack. Certainly never signed any NDA. I find it interesting that a simple joke on the front of a minor at best Installer.app repo can cause so many wakes. It is equivocally funny that a simple re-enforcement of the page by me posted earlier stating I had been ‘reprimanded’ by Apple could throw it even more into believability. To top it all off, a simple redirection of the domain to Apple’s iPhone Developer center would cause so many theories as to why that is so when it was to just stop the ‘where did it go’ questions.”

On Febuary 15th, both Macenstien and MacRumors posted about a web-site called Tiny-Code. Tiny-Code was an online repository for installer.app online repository for Installer.app. The reason I said, “was” is because their site now gets redirected to the apple iphone developer site. Isn’t this crazy? Heres why:

On that Feb 14th, Tiny-Code mentioned the iPhone firmware 1.1.4 and also said that they have stopped working for installer.app and have begun working with apple. Here is exactly what was on their website:

Tiny Code no longer produces fixes or applications for firmware 1.1.3. We can’t say much, but we are working with Apple and with their SDK for the next firmware release and SDK applications and we shouldn’t be missed for long. We will no longer update our Installer.app repo for legality reasons and you should see us soon on iTunes.

A day or so later, Apple shut them down for violating their NDA with Apple. We learn a lot of things from this.

1) Apple is working with companies early to get apps and the SDK out fast
2) They motioned the iPhone firmware 1.1.4 Alpha2. This must mean there is a long way to go until we see 1.1.4 in the open. Hopefully it will be out in the next few weeks
3) This is all true and Apple took them down because it was true.

This pretty much promises iPhone firmware 1.1.4 to be released at the same time as the SDK. We will also probably see a few apps come out with it as well. The only thing that scares me though is the Alpha2 part. This could possibly mean that the SDK will be delayed. Boy, would that be a bummer. Anyway, this is huge news and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
