V-Moda Vibe Duo Re-engineered

I wrote a post back in the day warning buyers about the V-Moda Vibe Duo Headphones. This was because these high quality, expensive headphones had a flaw that would cause the headphones to develop a short within a few months. I experienced this problem along side with hundreds of other customers.

A lot of companies make mistakes, but it are the good companies that recognize their mistakes and makes up for them. V-moda is one of those companies. After my buyer beware post, a very nice fellow by the name of Grant Marek contacted me. He was from a company called FormulaPR, which is the PR company for V-moda. He told me that V-moda understood that there was a mechanical flaw in the Vibe Duos and were re-moddling them. About a month later, I got a package from Grant with the new Vibe Duos in it.

As you can see from the pictures, the new version has a bigger and more stable jack. Obviously, the short came from a problem in the jack and not in the headphones themselves. I assume this new jack is much more sturdy and will satisfy customers who had past problems with the Vibe Duos. Grant gave me some specs about the jack, “It has a 45-degree flexible design and a sleek, sturdy core fused w/ a 35-corrot gold plated plug.” Sounds pretty nice to me :)
So, that buyer beware is gone. Go buy your Vibe Duos!

BigBoss is one of the many gurus when it comes to iPhones and iPhone hacking. He has a great blog at Sleepers.net and if any of you are interested in iPhone hacking, I suggest you check it out.

He wrote a great post today highlighting the great new changes in iPhone firmware 2.1. In his words, iPhone FW 2.1 Rules.

The 5 main improvements he gives are:

1) 3G reception is so much better.

2) Appstore Works!

3) The lag is gone.

4) Sync time is fixed.

5) Mail sync fixed.

Read his post for the details.

Bushisms iPhone App Rejected

As some of you may know, I created an iPhone application that listed over a hundred funny “bushisms” or quotes of George W. Bush. Unfortunately, due to Apple NDA, I can’t show you the exact e-mail. All I can say is that Apple doesn’t exactly allow people making fun of bush. The thing is, I don’t think my application is deliberately making fun of him. What is so wrong with listing true quotes from a person? If it were quotes from great movies, would it make a difference?

Update: I just want to make it clear that I fully understand the reason why my app got rejected and I am not arguing with the rules. Next time I make an iPhone app, I will make sure it complies with the rules.

iPhone 2.1 Backup Almost 10X Faster!

With the 2.1 iPhone firmware update, one of the most exciting bug fix for me was the faster backup speeds. I am in need of this because I am always restoring for numerous reasons and I never wait for my backup to complete. I decided to test this out today and I got some amazing results (see video).

I put about 800 sons + 12 apps on my iPhone. That includes large applications such as Super Monkey Ball and Texas Holdem. This took up about 5GB of space. As you can see my backup is extremely fast. If I were to do this with 2.0.2 it would have been a totally different result.

The only thing I cannot test is what the results would be like with a brand new iPhone. If someone did not update to 2.1, but instead restore, I would be interested in their backup speeds. Please comment if you could do that.

DropBox Now Open To Public…And Still Free

One of my favorite online services, DropBox, is now totally public and still free. There is no need for beta codes or invitations any more, all you have to do is sign up and download that client. It is now available for Windows, Mac and Linux users, so almost everyone can use DropBox.

DropBox is among the best free online service. DropBox is like having a 2GB iDisk with so much more. I have wrote about how much I love this service before, so I do not want to dabble.

Back to the point. If you find DropBox as useful as I do, you may consider upgrading from the 2GB to 50GB. If your into video editing or anything like that, this could be a great bargain for you. It is only $9.99/month or $99.99/year.

So, I am really happy now that it is open to everyone and if you do not have an DropBoc yet…GET IT!

iPod Firmware 2.1 Update For Sale?

Steve said firmware 2.1 would be released on Friday, but for some reason it is already on sale for iPod touch users. Is this for real? My guess is that you buy this and then can download it when it is released, but it is unusual of Apple to sell something that has not been released yet. Can any iPod Touch user confirm if it is really available for download or not? I know it is not yet available for iPhones…
