Every modern browser has a “bookmarks toolbar.” This toolbar is made for easy access to your favorite bookmarks. The bookmarks you always go to and spend a lot of your time on. I am always changing these bookmarks based on which ones I think deserve the space more. Since there is only a limited amount of space in this toolbar, you have to make hard decisions on what bookmarks to put there and which to leave out. Do you see where I’m going with this?
There should be a social bookmarking site, similar to Delicious where its sole purpose it to share your toolbar bookmarks. By having everyone share their bookmarks that they value the most, there would be a small amount of bad content. This would help people find good websites, and get the most out of their bookmark toolbar.
Everyone would have an account and you would have to download a plugin or extension that reads your bookmark toolbar and syncs it up with your account. You could see anyones bookmark toolbar live at anytime and see a list of recent changes. As a user, you can hide bookmarks, rate your bookmarks and comment of your bookmarks. You can even have a list of bookmarks that are close to being on your toolbar.
The front page would have a list of most popular bookmarks on people’s toolbars. It would also have a list of users who’s toolbars are highest rated.
I think this could be really cool even though it does not have as much range as some websites like Digg or Delicious. The reason I think this is a lot different that just finding the most popular sites on Alexa is because even though Google is #2 on Alexa, there is no way it will be #2 on this website. People put interesting sites in their toolbars, not search engines, etc. They put blogs, tools, web apps and more. People want to know what websites people like to visit the most and that is what the purpose of this site could be.
Anyone want to build this for me? Also, please suggest a name for the website in the comments. I have tried really hard to think of one, but they are all bad… Also give me feedback. What other features could the site offer that would be different from other social news sites. Thanks!
